HOW TO GET STARTED

Is the software compatible for PC and Mac?
Yes

How will my email be used?
Your email is used as a way to create a login and for us to contact you via email. We will never share or sell your email address.

 

PAYMENT INFORMATION

What are my payment options?
Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover.

Will you keep my credit card number on file?
No, Clearstory is PCI Compliant; we transact using Authorize.net and are covered by their SSL Certification.

At what point of the process will I be charged for my order?
You will not be charged until you have reviewed and confirmed all the details of your order.

 

BOOK INFORMATION

What are the different book / product types?
On the Clearstory website (myclearstory.com) under the Clearbooks tab, click on the book type you are making or interested in making, scroll down to see information on sizes, cover type, cover material and paper.

What are the book sizes I can choose from?
The sizes of books will vary by book types as follows:

Cookbook: 8×8, 8×10, 10×8
Everyday Photo Book: 8×8
Photo Book: 8×8, 10×8
Portfolio Book: 10×8, 9×12, 13×11
Wedding/Engagement Book: 8×8, 10×8, 13×9, 13×11

What type of cover material can I choose from?
Softcover books: Photo Paper Matte Coated
Hardcover books: options vary by book type and include Canvas, Fabric, Leather, Eco-Leather and for Photo Wrap Matte Photo Paper
Wire-o Bound books: 100 lb Cover Matte Coated

What type of paper can I choose from?
80 lb Cover, Photo Paper Matte Coated
80 lb Cover, Photo Paper Gloss Coated
100 lb Text, Uncoated for Notebook/Journal
110 lb Cover, Layflat Matte for Layflat books

What is the minimum and maximum pages for a book?
Minimum
All paper types: 10 Sheets = 20 pages

Maximum
80 lb Cover, Photo Paper Matte and Gloss Coated, 56 Sheets = 112 pages
100 lb Text, Uncoated, 61 Sheets = 122 pages
Everyday Photo Book, 10 Sheets = 20 pages
110 lb Cover, Layflat Matte, 38 Sheets = 76 pages

What is the cost per book?
Using the online “Calculator” will provide an estimate for each purchase being considered.

 

TURNAROUND TIME AND SHIPPING

When will I receive my book?
The estimated delivery in the United States is 7-10 business days from receipt of order. Orders received after 12pm Pacific are considered received the next business day.

Shipping locations: Clearstory will ship to a variety of locations and countries. Please contact us for information about shipping to locations outside of the United States.

Shipping Options: Our standard United States shipping is USPS Priority. This method is not trackable. Expedited orders and shipments are available at additional charges, please contact us for information.

What is the cost for shipping?
Shipping rates in Unites States are $7.95 per book with each additional copy ordered and shipped at the same time, to the same location (up to 14 books) is $3.00 per book.

CREATING A BOOK IN CLEARBOOKS

Page Layout

What does Page Insert do?
This inserts a blank, new page at the current point in the album.

What does Page Duplicate do?
This duplicates the currently selected page.

What does Page Add do?
This adds a blank, new page at the end of the album.

What does Page Delete do?
This will delete the current page from the album.

What does Rearrange Pages do?
This will open up a window that allows you to rearrange pages within an album.

What does First, Last, Next, Previous do?
These options will jump to the first page in the album, the last page in the album, the next page after the current one or the previous page before the current one.

 

Image

What does “Missing Picture” mean?
This message will appear if a picture’s location on your computer has changed, if the picture has become incompatible or if the picture has been edited outside of the book software in such a way that its dimensions have changed.

What image format should I upload?
TIFF (.tif)
JPEG (.jpg)

If I choose to photo wrap my book cover, what dimensions should I use?
Our cover layouts are configured to the correct dimensions for ease of use.

What is the best resolution for my pictures?
Your images will look the best at high resolutions of 240dpi at final size and above, with 300dpi yielding the best results.

What image format can be imported into a Picture Box?
TIFF (.tif), JPEG (.jpg)

How big an image can be imported into a Picture Box?
The JPEG or TIFF files must be at least 100KB and cannot exceed 7MB.

What if an image is not in JPEG or TIFF format?
You can convert other image file formats quite easily though a variety of tools. Please research the web for available methods.

How do I import photos from iPhoto or Android phones?
Photos from a phone devise must first be downloaded to your computer hard drive. Then from your computer hard drive you can add the pictures by clicking the “+” under the Pictures tool in upper left corner and then clicking on Computer from the drop down menu.

How do I import photos from Facebook and online photo accounts?
Currently Clearbooks only integrates with Facebook and Flicker. On the upper left corner, under Pictures tool, click the “+” and a drop down menu will appear with options to “Add Pictures from Facebook” or “Add Pictures from Flickr”.

 

Text

Can I pick a default font?
No, the default font is Arial. To change the font type, please click on the Text box.

How do I add text to my book?
Make sure when you select what type of book to make that you select a Book Type with the option of Captions. If you start a book without Captions, you will need to start over and select the book type with the Captions options.

How can I keep the text formatting when I copy and paste from other applications such as the web or a word document into Clearbooks?
You cannot. The formatting color, font type, spacing, etc. will need to be done via clicking on the Text box.

Are the captions limited to a certain amount of characters?
Yes, captions are limited in characters and lines to assure a balance in the overall design of the page spread.

Why won’t the text autoflow?
The text boxes are limited in characters and space to assure a balance in the overall design of the page spread.

If I change the Cover, can I retain the text or title?
You will lose the text you entered when you change a Cover type. For a work around, highlight the text, copy it, change the Cover type and then paste the text into the new page.

How change I keep the caption I entered when I change Page Style?
You will lose the caption you entered when you change a Page Style. For a work around, highlight the text, copy it, change the Page Style and then paste the text into the new page.

 

Changing Book Options and Computers

How do I change the book size?
Currently this is not available. You will need to create a new book.

How do I change the book cover?
Drag and drop a new book cover layout over an existing layout. To find book cover options, you can click on Change Product from the Toolbar panel and this will bring up options for your current product. Pictures and Page Styles will automatically transfer.

How do I change the book type?
Currently this is not available. You will need to create a new book.

Can I start creating a book on one computer and finish the same book on another computer?
You can, however it is a time-consuming process. The files for your project can be found in a folder called Clearbooks, which is located in the My Documents folder on a PC or the User folder on a Mac.

Before you move these files to another computer, make sure Book Creator is already installed. Place your files in the Clearbooks folder on the new computer and then launch Book Creator. When you open your project you will receive an alert that your images are missing. Choose “Find Pictures.” Now click on each picture individually and select “Update” to find them in their new location. Once you have finished this you can continue with your book.

 

Previewing or Proofing

How do I preview or proof my book before submitting?
We suggest Previewing or creating a Proof of your project before printing because what you see on the screen is exactly what will print.

As you review, look for issues such as pictures that cannot be located or have image quality issues, empty picture boxes, text boxes with too much text or missing fonts. Also, pay close attention to the Cover page as if you do not input text in areas such as “Your book title here” or “Your name here”, then it will print as “Your book title here” or “Your name here.”

To Preview: as a convenient way to view your book on screen without the distraction of the application panels click the button that looks like a ‘Play’ button on the Tool Bar Panel.

To Proof: Click File on the upper Tool Bar, click Create Proofs and follow the prompts.

 

Error Messages

I received a Low Quality Warning Icon. What does this mean?
This means the resolution on your picture is low and will affect the quality when it’s printed out. Consider editing the picture or using a different one.

What do I do when I get a Yellow Error Message?
Usually this means you have left a page, picture box or text box empty, but it can also indicate low quality pictures. Just go to the page in question and address the error. This message won’t appear until you perform the “Check Project” function.

 

Collaboration

How do I allow my family and friends to collaborate on my book? Currently this is not available. Of course, they can contribute by providing you with images.

 

ORDER

How can I check the status of my order?
Simply log-in to your account to check your order status.

Can I update a book once it’s submitted such as delete or add pictures, change captions?
You can review and make changes to your book before it is submitted, but after you pay and submit the book it is put into production and cannot be changed or canceled.

That said, you can return to Clearbooks to make changes / edits to the book, but you will need to reorder (pay and submit) the edited book.

 

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Clearbooks software won’t open.
In the Clearbooks application file, there is an uninstall icon. Uninstall the Clearbooks application and download a new installer. This will not cause you to loose any existing book projects.

I can’t find an existing book project.
Projects reside on the hard drive of the computer using the Clearbooks software. Verify you are working on the same hard drive.

I’ve not received my book.
It is possible that you completed the payment process, but did not submit your book for uploading. Please make sure that after you pay, you upload the file to Clearstory.
